Bubba and the Chocolate Farm (Book One: Carriage Horse to Show Horse)

SKU # 2223a-0571

by Connie Raun Foss  (Author), Brittany Sharp (Illustrator)

Ever wonder what life looks like through the eyes of a horse? Especially from the viewpoint of a horse that is too big to be an Arabian like his mother and too small to be a Clydesdale like his father. Add to that fate, being born without a mother to stand by and give you advice on how to be accepted, it’s tough. But Bubba is one of a kind who accepts life as it comes, eventually learning to fit in the show world by doing what he loves best, jumping. Along the way he and his half sister experience life together for a time, but each must go his or her own way and challenges and adventures keep coming to them both. Bubba’s many barn friends, such as Tom - one tough dude of a cat, Elliot - the undisciplined rat, and Mr. O - the busy-body Barn owl help make everyday interesting at the very least. Bubba learns to wear a saddle and bridle, and then his challenges begin when he loses his home in the Arabian Show Farm. He becomes a carriage horse and even more adventures ensue.

About the Author:

Learning to swim the old-fashioned way with a nearby lake a constant source of enjoyment to her and her brothers, Connie later applied that appreciation of swimming to Red Cross training classes and eventual certification as a Life Guard, Water Safety Instructor, and finally the highest level: Water Safety Instructor Trainer. Since her college days, Connie has helped thousands to learn to safely enjoy the water and hundreds more to be instructors. It was her desire to help those who didn’t necessarily have access to swimming lessons that inspired her first two books: Let’s Swim with Mr. Water and Swim with Mr. Water.

Connie’s adventurous nature is part of what makes her such a diversely talented individual. Even more encompassing that swimming has been Connie’s lifelong passion for animals, and most especially horses. First, she and her husband, then her sons, all developed and expressed their love through their individual life choices. Raising Arabians on their horse farm, then creating sculptures in different mediums, took Connie into a career that prevails today. Foss lost wax bronze and hand-carved hardwood sculptures can be found worldwide in homes and galleries alike.

There can be no question that Connie Raun Foss has stored a lifetime of experiences and has once again found her creative outlet in authoring children’s books. From childhood relationships to her wonderful stories of horses, all are special, and all store plenty of humor, insight and inspiration for readers of all ages.

Connie lives with her three dogs in Prescott, Arizona, where she writes, sculpts and teaches sculpting too.
