What is Eventing?

Globally Eventing is governed by the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI) and consists of 8 disciplines, dressage, combined driving, endurance, eventing, para-equestrian, reining, show jumping and equestrian vaulting. Two more disciplines are under regional governance: horseball and tent pegging. The FEI does not govern or provide rules for horse racing or polo, however, it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Federation of International Polo. 

3 Day Eventing could be termed an "equestrian triathlon" and involves working with a horse both on the flat and over fences in a period of three days. in the United Sates it is governed by the United States Eventing Association (USEA). The three phases (one each day) are: dressage, endurance (or cross-country), and show jumping.

1. Day One: Dressage - A set series of movements to show off the horse’s obedience.
2. Day Two: Cross-Country - A test to prove the horse's speed, endurance, and jumping ability over varied terrain and obstacles.
3. Day Three: Show Jumping - A show jumping course to test the horse's stamina and recovery after the endurance phase showing that it is fit enough to continue work.
